Lighter Socket
How do I remove the Cigarette Lighter socket on my 1999 Daihatsu Fourtrak TDX?
It looks as if the lighter socket is held in a small separate trim panel, but I'm reluctant to try and prise this out without advice, as I'm afraid of causing damage.
I'm not sure about how this is on your Diahatsu, but I suspect most of these small trim inserts work the same way. I had to do something similar to get at the clock on my Honda CRV.
To hold the trim in, there are usually molded tabs on the top and a molded clip at the bottom of the trim. To prevent accidentally scratching the main panel, mask off the area with electrical tape. Explore carefully, as yours could be reversed. Slide a thin blade, such as a thin putty knife, paint scraper, or similar tool, under the edge of the trim piece, almost parallel to the face. When you locate the clip, you should be able to feel it give a little bit. Push in gently but firmly, with a slight prying, and the lighter trim should pop out.
Replace the lighter, and snap the trim back in place. You should be good to go.
