About the Core 2 duo and mobile processors?
Hi people says that core 2 duo is the technology that have two processers in it (virtually) and centrino mobile technology is used for mobility applications.
Could any one can specify what is the core difference between these two...
Is it true that core duo 1.6 mhz means it is equal to 3.2 mhz Processor. When i searched in intel website i found that coreduo processor is the one which can execute two applications in parllel. and mobile processors are designed for laptops.
Could any one can give me a brief answer for this....And please let me know if you had any sources to get more information about these technologies.
You've got two questions there...
1) "Core Duo" and "Core 2 Duo" refer to a family of Intel CPUs with more than one processor "core" per chip. "Centrino" refers to a family of Intel chips that make up the rest of a system (Wireless, memory control, disk interfaces, etc.). So, a computer could have a Core Duo processor and a Centrino chipset.
2) Two women wont make a single baby in 4.5 months, and two cores wont run a program in half the time. The advantage of having two cores is that they each can be working on something at the same time with fewer distractions (because they're each handling half of the running processes). This will give you a small speedup since each core has less "task switching" to deal with. Also, if a program has been written so that it has lots of small steps that can be run in parallel, then parts could be split up between cores for even more efficiency. But it still wont be the same as a 3.2GHz processor. If you run a lot of tasks (and things like virus scanners and IM count!), then a multi-core CPU will probably be better for you than a fast single-core chip.
